William Makepeace Thackeray (1811–1863) was a preeminent Victorian novelist celebrated for his biting satire, realistic portrayal of upper-middle-class society, and complex characters. His most well known work, Vanity Fair is firmly considered a classic of English literature and a cornerstone of the Victorian novel.
Each volume includes original illustrations by the author and others. Some volumes are more illustrated than others. A lovely set to read.
Published in 1889 by the Riverside Press, Cambridge, Mass. Riverside Press was established by Henry Oscar Houghton (founder of Houghton, Mifflin, and Co.) in in 1852. His press's motto was “Tout bien ou rien” – do it well or not at all. and part of
Format and Condition
Incomplete set: Originally produced in 22 volumes, 20 volumes are present here in this lot. Volume 10 and 11 are missing.

Hardcover bound in 1/2 morocco leather with marbled boards and end papers, fives hub spines, gilt top page edges and spine decorations.
Many pages in all volumes are unopened. These pages, often called intonso, indicate a book was never read and requires a paper knife to separate the folded sheets, common in older or high-end publication.
In very good condition with clean and unmarked pages, sound bindings, minor scuffs, rubbed bottom edges, and the most minor foxing on some fore edges.
